Ever wonder what it’s like to get shot in the chest while wearing a bulletproof vest? If so, then you’re just the guy for our next set of controlled tests! But until then, let’s take a quick look at the new SafeGuard ARMOR™ Level II “Stealth” bullet proof and stab resistant vest.

It’s always exciting when something expensive shows up at your door. After paying a bunch of money online for the good stuff, you’ve come to realize that the Christmas sensation of childlike happiness you get from grasping new toys and idolized gadgetry in your own clumsy paws comes around as often as you can afford it. The “Stealth” bulletproof vest with CoolMAX® carrier is that kind of good stuff. Made from 100% DuPont™ Kevlar®, this vest is comfortable, durable, confident and costs surprisingly much less than you might have thought. Nevertheless, SafeGuard ARMOR™ products tend to offer a big bang-for-the-buck, as you’ll see if you decide to adorn your tactical wardrobe with one of these beautifully crafted, fashionable lifesaving garments de tactical!

It’s here! As we opened the extremely secure cardboard safe of a box, the first impression was that the “Stealth” vest looked quite a bit different from most of the other vests we’ve reviewed. Minus those uncomfortable Velcro straps commonly found on the shoulders of most vests, the “Stealth” looked more like an armored t-shirt peppered with the same perforated holes you’d find on a football or soccer jersey. Fitted for each order, we immediately donned the new gear and impatiently proceeded to the top-secret bullet proof vest testing facility, a.k.a. tactical lab extraordinaire, a.k.a. China Lake… not really.

Available in Level IIIa and Level II, the SafeGuard ARMOR™ vest is even more unique from most due to its options for Level I and Level II stab protection, plus its Level I and Level II spike protection. SafeGuard ARMOR™ provides the wearer with an added level of protection from knife-fighting slashes, while the spike protection prevents from puncturing by syringes, knives and other pointed weapons of human violence.

The SafeGuard ARMOR™ Level II “Stealth” ballistic vest comes with a 5-year warranty. Plus, all SafeGuard ARMOR™ products are certified and tested in full compliance with US National Institute of Justice (NIJ) 0101.03 and 0101.04 standards. If any SafeGuard ARMOR™ products under warranty are deemed to be defective or faulty, SafeGuard ARMOR™ will replace or repair them free of charge.

So, because I sometimes sweat like a pig at a smoke shop it was important to me to find out if I could wear the “Stealth” vest all day or all night without loosing ten pounds each session. True to its name, the CoolMAX® carrier’s fabric features a moisture management system designed to be worn directly against the skin. It’s basically a moisture-wicking technology that keeps the wearer cool by pulling perspiration away from the body. Seems to work pretty well, too! We’ve worn it on some pretty hot, ninety-degree days here lately.

During our intensive “wear the shit out of it” testing process and after having subjected it to the to various elements of extreme Northwest weather, we’re relatively impressed with the SafeGuard ARMOR™ bullet proof and stab resistant vest. However, if we could improve just one thing, it would be to offer a v-neck option, too. The crew neck sometimes gets a bit tight on the big guys.

Now, who wants to see us shoot and cut this finely engineered and manufactured SafeGuard ARMOR™ level II “Stealth” bullet proof vest? Or, maybe you want to win it and shoot it for us? Leave your comments!

Okay, so go online and get yourself a vest! But, don’t try any of this shooting and stabbing each other testing stuff we do here at the lab without first getting the proper training and experience to do it safely. It’s all fun and game until someone gets an eye poked out!

  1. After a little more research, I found that they aren’t listed by the Ft. Collins, CO chamber of commerce. Their address in Ft. Collins appears to be a small garage/wharehouse unit next to a little body shop.

On the plus side, their vests seem to be stopping bullets and knives on youtube.

  2. SafeGuard seems a little sketchy to me. They briefly mention that their panels are refurbished but don’t explicitly explain what you are getting. The fact that they also have some level of stab resistance makes me think they are just refurbished British panels. Stab protection and Dupont Kevlar is typical in a lot of the surplus British vests.

I’m not saying that used Kevlar won’t stop a bullet, I’m just saying they seem sneaky in their marketing.

  3. Just bought this vest! 1-2 day delivery and I can’t wait for it to arrive! It seems perfect for off duty or just to ensure safety in big public events when I’m off the clock! Thanks for the review it’s exactly what I needed to make sure this is right for me! Keep doing what Your Doing!!

    Once Blue, Forever Blue!

  4. I am interested in purchasing a few vest for my agency, private investigations and security services. However, because I would be issuing said equipment to our personnel. I would like to have confidence that I am providing every one with good quality equipment. I am concerned with the comments made questioning the safety of the product.

Can you please provide more information.

  5. This comment will be deleted I am sure.

Listen. This is a UK company who spend a lot of money on PR. I have pulled their accounts and they do not look like the worlds biggest body armor company as they claim.

Point 1: Anyone who knows their armor knows that 21 layers of Kevlar does not stop knife threats to KR1 or Level 1 standard. If using kevlar it takes 32 layers of a 200gram kevlar to stop ballistic IIIA but this isnt a very innovative solution. A proper KR1 knife test will go through it like butter. to stop knife you need hard materials or chain mail.

    2. Safeguard have NO certifications. Go and look at the NIJ and the HOSDB database for armour published on internet. Do you see name SAFEGUARD? Answer = NO

    3. If you are so confident please put this vest through a proper independent test. I guarantee it will fail if it has 21 layers of Kelvar only.

    4. does this company give you insurance? if they have given you insurance document phone the company to check its real.

A level IIIA plus Level 2 stab body armor will not be comfortable. FACT. the reason you are all saying its comfortable is because it does not provide the protection as per the label.

i hope someone investigates this further as i feel you are being conned.

  6. Just so your readers know, they are not an American company. Their website says Colorado but it is actually based in the UK. They do not use the US Dollar, so when you order and pay you may be charged a foreign transaction fee. I was a little dissapointed when I found this out because I thought I was buying American.

  7. I just bought this vest and I must say, it’s very comfortable. I bought the Level IIIa with level II stab protection. I love that it’s comfortably concealable as a Level IIIa vest. It’s also a plus that its safe against taser shots. We all know how bad those suck.

I work in the armored truck (cash-in-transit) business as well as private armed security, so body armor is a must.

I purchased Saturday and it showed up on Tuesday. Very quick.

  8. This vest looks amazing. It looks like just what I need. Between bank security and hospital security as well as Law Enforcement work here in the Chicago area, I’d definitely put it to the test.

  9. Well-written review, Brian. The “Stealth” sounds pretty impressive. How do I enter the contest to win one? Or did I just do that?
