Officials at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are warning that some private gun owners and buyers have fallen victim to “sellers” fraudulently posing as federal firearms licensees (FFLs). Private gun owners and buyers can protect themselves by accessing ATF’s FFL eZ Check. It’s an online FFL confirmation software.

FFL EZ Check is an online resource provided to private gun owners and buyers by the ATF.
An expired FFL license number, even an unknowing one, can be a significant legal problem (not to mention an unnecessary delays in your range time). FFL eZ Check will allow private users to access the ATF FFL list and determine a particular licensee’s current standing. This article originally ran November 8 2022.

FFL eZ Check explained

FFL eZ Check allows private parties and other FFLs to verify if a federal firearms license is valid. The user needs only enter the first three (3) digits and the last five (5) digits of the FFL being verified in the blocks provided and select the SUBMIT button. Selecting the RESET button will clear previously entered data.

Access the ATF FFL list online with the eZ check service.
You can now check the ATF FFL list online and confirm the legitimacy of an FFL/SOT before doing business with them.

FFL eZ Check does not validate Type 03 (Collectors of Curios and Relics) and Type 06 (Manufacturer of Ammunition) licenses. NSSF urges all licensed firearm retailers and private parties concerned about lawfully transferring a firearm to use this vital tool. Although FFL eZ Check does not function as a background check, it can certainly help avoid scams, fraud, and any other issues that might arise when conducting a firearm-related transaction – particularly, though not limited to, occasions when you wish to buy a gun online

FFL ez Check can be accessed here.
